I-2014 / Bernat Vivancos is to leave his post as choir master of the Escolania de Montserrat at the end of the current academic year in order to dedicate himself entirely to composing. Bernat Vivancos has been the director of the choir for the last seven years and in June will leave the post -as he announced to the choir’s directors four years ago- to be able to dedicate himself more completely to his compositional work, which he describes as “a vocation that needs time and tranquillity; and also,” he states, “to continue my work as teacher of Composition and Orchestration at ESMUC”.
For Vivancos, his experience and time as the Escolania’s musical director has been “an act of justice: to try to give back to Montserrat what they offered me as a child at the Escolania, the best gift I have ever received”. His assistant in recent years, Llorenç Castelló, will take over the role of musical director at the beginning of the coming academic year, ensuring the continuity of the choir’s musical trajectory.
